MY QUESTION TO PEAR DECK IS WHAT ARE THEY BASING THIS EMAIL ON WHICH WAS SENT TO TEACHERS? So, draw the dots and I bet you can assume many teachers will create slides calling the Capital riot racism and bigotry based on this letter. Really? Where is the evidence? I thought it was all about our election process. Know what your kids are being taught. In my opinion. Brainwashing is occurring a K-12 as well as in our colleges. Wake up now.

The work that you do as educators has been made exponentially harder this past year, not only because of a global pandemic that turned every aspect of our lives upside down, but because of escalating tension in our country. We are shaken and disturbed by the attack on our democracy at the Capitol yesterday.
Although their voices were loud, these instigators don’t represent the world at large. Violence like this is not normal, is not just something that happens, and we need our students to know that as well. To change our future for the better, we must recognize and challenge the racism and bigotry that fuel these acts of violence.
Our students deserve better from our leadership and so do our teachers. The truth is that teachers aren’t asked only to teach; you’re asked to lead our students through hard moments and translate chaotic, frightening events into words that make sense. To provide a place of safety, whether in a classroom or through a screen. It’s too much to ask, and yet you do it every day.
It is vital that our students grow up with examples of good leadership. Thank you for being one of those examples, and for the hard, critical work you do every day to support and guide our students.
